Long block vs complete engine: which do you actually need?

A long block covers the rotating assembly and cylinder heads — the parts that fail catastrophically. A complete engine arrives with the accessories already fitted. A long block is the right buy when your original accessories are serviceable, which is the usual situation after a rod knock, spun bearing, overheat, or timing failure. It is the wrong buy if your engine bay was damaged by fire or collision and the ancillaries are gone too. How to confirm the 2GR-FE is the right engine for your vehicle

Toyota used several 3.5-liter V6 variants across this era, and they are not interchangeable. The 2GR-FE is the port-injected version. Other 2GR family variants use different injection and management hardware, so a 3.5L badge on your car is not sufficient evidence that a 2GR-FE will bolt in and run correctly.
