Brand new G4KH 2.0L Turbo GDI engines for Hyundai and Kia

Every G4KH long block on this page is a brand new unit — not used, not rebuilt and not a core exchange. There are 44 G4KH listings in stock right now, split across two generations of the Hyundai and Kia 2.0-litre Theta II turbocharged GDI engine, and every one ships with a written 6-month warranty. If the 2.0T in your Sonata, Optima, Santa Fe, Sportage, Sorento, Veloster N or Elantra N has been condemned, a complete long block is normally far cheaper than the car is worth.

Browse the full Hyundai engine range and Kia engine range if your vehicle is not a 2.0 Turbo, and use expert support or contact us if you want a human to confirm the match before you order.

Gen 1 and Gen 2 are not interchangeable — order by model year

The G4KH exists in two versions that share one engine code. JDM Engine Zone stocks both, at two different prices, and they are listed separately for a reason: the parts supplied with each are different, and so is the mounting hardware you are expected to reuse. Match the generation to your vehicle year, then confirm with your VIN before you buy. This is the single most common ordering error on this engine.

  • Gen 1 — $1,899.00 — 18 listings. Manufacturer part number G4KH GEN1 TURBO.
  • Gen 2 — $2,650.00 — 26 listings. Manufacturer part number G4KH TURBO.

G4KH engine specifications, exactly as published on every listing

  • Condition: New
  • Engine size: 2.0 L
  • Number of cylinders: 4-Cylinder
  • Block type: Straight
  • Number of valves: 16
  • Fuel type: Gasoline
  • Aspiration: Turbo
  • Type: Engine Long Block
  • Manufacturer part number: G4KH GEN1 TURBO (Gen 1) / G4KH TURBO (Gen 2)
  • Warranty: 6 Months

These are the only specifications JDM Engine Zone publishes for this engine. We do not quote horsepower, torque or compression figures on a replacement long block, because the output you get depends on the turbocharger, intake, exhaust and calibration already fitted to your own vehicle. If you need a technical term explained, the terminology glossary covers the vocabulary used across these listings.

What is included with a G4KH long block — and it differs by generation

This is the practical difference between the two price tiers, and it is taken verbatim from the listings rather than from a generic template.

Gen 1 ($1,899) includes: camshaft, cylinder head, oil pan, timing cover, valve covers.

Gen 2 ($2,650) includes: camshaft, cylinder head, oil pan, oil pump, timing chain, timing cover, valve covers.

In other words, the Gen 2 long block ships with the oil pump and timing chain included; the Gen 1 does not. Neither version is a complete drop-in engine: a long block does not include the turbocharger, intake or exhaust manifolds, injectors, sensors, wiring, alternator, starter, air conditioning compressor or accessory brackets. Those come off your original engine and go back on. If that distinction is new to you, read long block vs short block: what you are actually buying before you order.

Fitment note published on every Gen 1 G4KH listing

All 18 Gen 1 listings carry the same note: “Please use your original timing cover for mounting purposes.” Keep your old timing cover when the engine comes out. It is a real, non-obvious requirement on this generation and it is the sort of detail that turns a one-day install into a three-day one if it is discovered late. The Gen 2 listings do not carry this note.

Hyundai Sonata 2.0T G4KH engines in stock

Gen 1 covers the 2011–2014 Sonata 2.0T; Gen 2 covers 2015–2019.

Kia Optima 2.0T G4KH engines in stock

The Gen 1 Optima listings are specified for VIN 6 in the 8th digit — check that character on your VIN before ordering a 2012–2015 car. Gen 2 covers 2016–2020.

Kia Sportage 2.0T G4KH engines in stock

The widest year coverage of any G4KH application we stock: Gen 1 from 2011 to 2016 and Gen 2 from 2017 to 2020.

Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0T G4KH engines in stock

Gen 1 covers 2013–2016 and Gen 2 covers 2017–2019.

Kia Sorento, Hyundai Veloster N and Hyundai Elantra N (Gen 2 only)

These three applications are stocked in Gen 2 form only.

Applications we do not currently stock

We would rather tell you now than have you order the wrong part. As of today there is no Gen 1 Kia Sorento, no Hyundai Tucson 2.0T and no 2021 model-year Sonata or Optima G4KH in stock, and the Hyundai i30 N is not a North American model so it is not part of this catalogue. If your vehicle is on that list, contact us and we will tell you whether it is coming back in, rather than selling you a listing that does not fit.

How to make sure the G4KH is the right engine for your vehicle

  1. Confirm the engine code on the car. On these engines the code is on the cylinder head cover or timing cover area. It should read G4KH. A 2.4-litre Hyundai or Kia is a different engine and will not be served by this page.
  2. Confirm turbo vs naturally aspirated. The G4KH is a turbocharged GDI engine. A non-turbo 2.0 GDI in the same model year is a different engine code.
  3. Match the generation to the model year using the sections above, and check the VIN digit note on Gen 1 Optima listings.
  4. Send us your VIN. Year, make, model and displacement alone are not enough to guarantee fitment on this family. Ask our team with your VIN to hand and we will verify the listing against your exact vehicle before you pay.

If you are still deciding whether the engine needs replacing at all, what to inspect on an engine reliability check and is it time to replace your engine are the right places to start.

Check your recall and warranty coverage before you spend anything

Hyundai and Kia have issued recalls, warranty extensions and software updates covering parts of the Theta engine family. Whether your car is covered depends on your exact VIN, model year and service history, so check directly with a Hyundai or Kia dealer using your VIN before you buy a replacement engine. If the work is covered, that is the cheaper path and we will say so. If it is not, a brand new long block from stock is the fastest route back on the road.

Frequently asked questions about the G4KH engine

Is the Gen 1 G4KH the same as the Gen 2?

No. They share the engine code but they are listed and priced separately, and the parts supplied with each differ — the Gen 2 long block includes the oil pump and timing chain, the Gen 1 does not. Order by model year and confirm with your VIN.

Are these engines new or used?

New. Every one of the 44 G4KH listings on this page is published with a condition of New. JDM Engine Zone does not sell used or rebuilt G4KH engines.

Does the G4KH long block include the turbocharger?

No. A long block does not include the turbocharger, manifolds, injectors, sensors or wiring. Those transfer from your original engine. Inspect and service the turbo oil feed and return lines before you fit a new engine.

What warranty comes with a G4KH engine?

6 months, as published on all 44 listings. See the warranty page for the exact terms and installation conditions.

Will a G4KH fit my car if the year matches?

Not automatically. Year, make, model and displacement are a starting point, not a guarantee — generation, VIN digit and turbo configuration all matter on this engine. Send your VIN to our support team and we will confirm the correct listing for your vehicle.

How much does a G4KH replacement engine cost?

$1,899.00 for a Gen 1 long block and $2,650.00 for a Gen 2 long block at the time of writing. Freight is quoted separately — see shipping information.
